Designed and built for owners Dan and Annette Purther bynatural architectbuilder Ken Meffan. Thisnatural house takes optimum advantage of a fabulous Sierra Nevada Mountain canyon view. The 4200 s.f. house is respectfully nestled into the mountain site.
A pallet of naturalmaterials used are: sustainable harvested rough sawn wood, much of which came from the site, raw steel; unfinished steel meant to oxidize and patina naturally.
Entry to the house is through a large six foot wide by eight foot tall pivot door built by Ken Meffan.
Interior paint colorchoices were inspired by owner Annette, an artist, and carried out by Dan, a supreme quality painter.
Logs used as structural columns were harvested from the site and cleaned by Dan.
The stairway landing is actually the desk surface leading past a large industrial fan to a bridge that views down into living spacesbelow and goes pass a large sliding barn door into their son’s bedroom or straight away to a spectacular view “crow’s nest”.
The massive garage/art studio is connected to the house by a drive through breezeway. The breezeway’s roof is designed to be a “green roof” planted with mountain wildflowers emphasizing the naturalmountain environment.
An interesting featureof this natural house is: a glass garage door at the master bathroom tub that opens up to a fabulous private view and private deck. You can dry off outside enjoying a naturalsetting |
