Keywords: eco house, Ken Meffan architectbuilder, Mountain house, natural house
This house concept is designed by Atelier Bow Wow, Tokyo and constructed by natural architectbuilder Ken Meffan, resident of Rough and Ready California near Grass Valley and Nevada City California. The house is designed as a simple natural living, environmentally conscious dwelling for a Los Angeles based artist filmmaker. The Mountain house has been featured in Mark Magazine and Architectural Record Magazine, record houses issue.
Although not the concept designer, the California building team member Ken Meffan, natural architectbuilder, was able to influence the Tokyo architects and owner to use a more natural indigenous material vocabulary to better blend this small eco house with this Sierra Nevada foothills historic mining area site.
The roof deck is the dominate feature of the house and intended as a summer sleeping and eating place just removed from the night local inhabitants of the site: raccoons, possums, coyotes, bears…. Its raised elevation offer enhanced summer breezes to temper the hot summer and create a 360 degree view vantage point without a house obstacle interfering .
A fun feature is a recycled functioning bathtub near the house, outside. |
